Emory Urban Health Initiative aims to work with the Northwest Atlanta community to create happier and healthier individuals through educational gardening.

Our Super Giant Foods Community Garden addresses the pressing environmental health issue of healthy food access in Northwest Atlanta and works to provide the community with a more nutritious selection of alternative foods. The Urban Health Initiative received a start-up grant and is working in concert with the community to build and maintain this garden. The community garden will eventually be a part of a larger Healthy Hub including the existing grocery store, our community garden, a community kitchen, a free minute clinic, a laundromat, and a gas station.

Urban Health Initiative is employing a Human Centered Design for the Super Giant Foods Community Garden. We believe that community engagement and contribution is both valuable and crucial to the creation of a successful sustainable food garden. Super Giant Foods employees and community members have been involved in every step of the project design, and will continue to collaborate with Emory students and UHI staff throughout the creation phase.

OUR MISSION

Super Giant Community Garden is located in the back lot of Super Giant Foods grocery store. The vision for our garden is to contribute to the plaza as a Healthy Hub for the Bankhead community.

This Healthy Hub will contain a grocery store, community kitchen, and community garden in the back. The front of the plaza will feature a Minute Clinic, childcare facilities, and a laundromat. Renovations are projected for completion in November 2014.
